Near the state line so humor-dry Connecticut and Rhode Island can sneak over the border for jokes. The Joke Bar is full of gags, ably demoed by Valerie and her teenagers, Kat and Alex Kaneb. Valerie says the bar and shop let customers express their "inner child." While we visited, a pair of Verizon "customer satisfaction" reps, David and Barbara, walked in. Valerie targets Barbara, a Verizon trainee, and asks "Is it okay if I squirt something on you?" Barbara looks around at us and her partner, tentatively answers "Yes," and is immediately splattered with dark blue ink across her white jacket. As the disappearing ink fails to quickly fade, Valerie torments: "You don't dry clean this, do you? " Barbara's smiling on the outside, but her inner child is ready to clobber Valerie. The Four Eyes Joke Shop also operates a traveling "Jokemobile" -- a 22 ft. Grumman that farts and makes chicken noises. Several years ago we started the Four Eyes business from our home, using the garage as the sales room. In July of 2003, we moved our garage-based store to a commercial garage on Route 20 in Brimfield. We cleaned the grease-laden floor, painted the walls, and made proper an old garage once used by the Town of Brimfield Fire House. One year later on July 24, 2004 Four Eyes Joke Shop moves to the corner of Central and Main Streets in . Our flagship store is located, ironically, in the "Eye of the Commonwealth," and in the very same building where the American Optical Company began grinding glasses. Four Eyes is very proud to be part of 's history, and we hope to contribute a little bit of our own.
The Four Eyes family is one fun-loving family. Our goal now as community members is to share all that we know about creating opportunities to laugh, to smile, to share. We believe in good things. And we believe that having fun is a very good thing.
Our mission is make sure that every visitor to Four Eyes Joke Shop leaves feeling good, feeling a little bit brighter and happier for having come into our shop. For our belief is that if the soul made a sound, it would be LAUGHTER.
